What is a project review?

A project review is more like a probing approach towards project and its time table. The review team provides its counsel to Quality Assurance when it finds some mismanagement in a project. Review team members interview Project manager about project completion and progress. Project reviews are of two types- Standard and Special Review, Special Review conduct on request of Stakeholders. Quality Assurance team compose a project review team, which then reviews the project and compile a report about it.

What are the basic of a project?

Every project has some five basics or say protocols, they are

  • Initiating
  • Planning
  • Executing
  • Monitoring
  • Controlling

If these basics fall into pieces accurately then a project seems to be successful and gain its desired time completion. However for a project to complete on time, whether it’s a bridge completion project or some small projects, these basics are must and followed accordingly. To make sure the completion of every step on time and the quality of project, every Quality Assurance teams forms a Project review team to ensure its progress. These are the basics of every project management around the globe.



When to review a Project?

The best time to review a project is shortly after the project is delivered to the team. In initial stage probing a problem and then solving it is much easier compare to when most of the work is done. Beside this team have plenty of innovative ideas in the initiation of a project. In initial review is not possible then when project is about to complete, whether every steps completes or not and if the project is able to deliver on time. A post implementation review is also conduct to find out the objectives are met or not, to determine if the project runs effectively, and how to get out the best from the project?

What to review in a project?

There are many things to review in a project, here we compile a list of reviews must be taken in a project review session.

  • Ask for suggestions- You have to be honest and open minded when you are going to review a project. Ask for the project team suggestion and imply it without hesitation if it is good for the project.
  • Wear an objective attitude- Be objective and respect other team members’ views. It is a key to a successful project review.
  • Follow project charter- Review if the project charters match the original charter. If there are gap found ensure its completion on time.
  • Quality- Review the qualities of varies deliverables during a project in progress.
  • Probe whether project goals are achieved
  • Is the completion functioning as expected
  • The rate of errors must be low.
  • The necessary controls and systems have to be where they are expected.
  • If there anything else needed to support project completion on expected time.
  • The contentment of end result compare to the original project plan, in terms of quality assurance and budget.
  • Ensure the satisfaction of share holders.
  • Whether the users’ need meet?
  • Are the sponsors of project satisfied with its result?
  • If stakeholders aren’t satisfied, how to address this situation?
  • Finding the project costs and benefits.
  • What were the final costs?
  • If final cost is excisable then the expected cost, how the excess cost achieved back?
  • If the project failed to deliver, how can this be improved?

With all these review key documents, define the scope of the review, and present recommendations in the report of the project review.

This is a standard project review protocol followed by companies and industries around the world to examine their running or post-completion projects.
